Shelley Parker: powerline apprentice now Alectra VP, recognized for excellence

November 18, 2023 – Shelley Parker, vice-president, Metering, at Alectra Utilities, has been recognized for “Excellence in Trades” at the Greater Niagara Chamber of Commerce’s Women in Business Awards (WIBA). Congratulations!
“Shelley is a truly deserving individual whose remarkable journey in the skilled trades has been nothing short of inspirational,” said Chris Hudson, Alectra. “Over three decades of dedicated service in the technical trades, Shelley’s professional trajectory is a testament to her unwavering commitment to excellence.”
WIBA’s “Excellence in Trades” award is bestowed to a female tradesperson “who is a leader in the field and an inspiration to women in or seeking to enter the skilled trades”.
The award was presented by Kraun Electric, which has been serving the Hamilton, Niagara, St. Catharines and Burlington areas for over 25 years.
Parker started her career as a powerline maintainer apprentice with Ontario Hydro in 1990, where she was one of the few women working in the electrical trades in Ontario. Afterward, she spent several years as journeyman powerline maintainer with BC Hydro.
Throughout her professional evolution, Shelley held a series of pivotal roles, each contributing to her reputation as a trailblazer. Her journey included positions as a control centre operator, deregulation project specialist, manager of regulatory services, project lead for smart metering, manager of customer care, director of customer operations, leading to her current role as vice-president of metering at Alectra Utilities. – GNCC
Parker is also a board member of the Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists, and chairs OACETT’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion committee.
