The 2023 ASHRAE Annual Conference brought together over 2,050 HVAC/R industry professionals for a five-day event held in Tampa, Florida in late June.
As tradition holds, the society introduced its elected officers and directors for the next year, and Ginger Scoggins, P.E., owner of Engineered Designs, Inc., a consulting engineering firm in Cary, North Carolina, officially took over as the 2023-24 ASHRAE president.
During her inaugural address, Scoggins introduced the theme for the year ahead of: “Challenge Accepted: Tackling the Climate Crisis.

She highlighted the climate change migration that has taken place globally in the past 50 years and spoke about ASHRAE’s commitment to providing resources and thought leadership in global building decarbonization.

“We are living in a climate emergency,” said Scoggins. “Our desire to be more comfortable has brought us to a place where we need to make uncomfortable decisions. We can accept the challenge of our day regarding the impact of our buildings on the climate crises by equipping our members with the knowledge they need to design and renovate buildings to address the greenhouse gas emissions of our industry.”
The complete slate of elected officers along with the newest directors and regional chairs were introduced, and ASHRAE also introduced its newest directors-at-large which includes Doug C. Cochrane, P.Eng., an independent consultant from Mississauga.
A complete list of the ASHRAE board of director can be found at ashrae.org.
The 2024 ASHRAE Winter Conference will coincide with the AHR Expo, taking place January 22-24 in Chicago.
