To highlight the work of women in the ICI construction sector, the Ontario General Contractors Association (OGCA) and League of Champions (LoC) have released a video of interviews with women in the field and the office as part of Women in Construction week.

Women account for approximately 12 per cent of Ontario’s construction industry workforce, including off‐site business administration, management and sales. Women in Construction Week is a time that brings to the fore the opportunities that are available to women in construction. Women in Construction Week traces the history of women in construction, their challenges, and the ways they’ve been able to overcome them.

The video highlights experiences on-site, in management roles and the design industry.

“I chose construction because there is a sense of pride and achievement in contributing to infrastructure that makes up the communities we live in,” said Magda Sabat, vice-president of alternative projects at Pomerleau. “My favourite thing about working in construction is seeing one’s efforts comes to life in a very tangible way.”

“We wanted to show why construction is a fit for everyone and why other women should find a career in the trades,” said Sabrina Tropiano, communications and engagement coordinator at the OGCA. “This week was about sharing the stories of strong, proud women who are paving the way for the next generation of workers in the construction industry. We are everywhere!”
